Based in Cape Town, Dave Robertson has been producing artwork and exhibiting since the mid 90’s. As a photographic artist he is well known for his focus on people at the margins of society and much of the imagery in his photographic work reflects this interest. To this end, his first book of photographs entitled, Plakkerskamp 2003-2012 documents a marginalized community near Bonnievale, in the Western Cape, over a nine year period. This book won the Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis 2013 book award in Luxembourg.

At the Spier Contemporary 2010 competion, he was a prize winner for Paper Trails, a documentary photographic project focusing on informal recyclers in Newtown, Johannesburg. Immediately following this achievement, Dave began to focus intensively on abstract painting. His first exhibition of large-scale abstract paintings in 2011, was highly successful, selling out in a few weeks. The show entitled ‘concrete trails, urban tales’, was hosted by Worldart Gallery, Cape Town.

Since then Dave has exhibited paintings in several group shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg. In early 2014, at Res Gallery in johannesburg, he exhibited Partially Nomad, a body of work which combined painting and photography. Some of these works will be included in the South African exhibition at the 6th International Beijing Biennale 2015.
