Nicholas Koursaris is a long-time member of Ceramics Southern Africa and has been working with clay part-time for almost a decade. He works almost exclusively on the potter’s wheel, creating both functional and decorative ware from his home studio in Cape Town. He has participated in several Gauteng CSA regional exhibitions.

Alternating on a whim between porcelain, stoneware and earthenware clay bodies, he strives for crisp, elegant forms with minimal glazing and decoration.

He takes inspiration from the potters of the past and today’s collision of cultural pasts and futures. He strives to reinterpret classical shapes from around the world – including Africa, Greece, Japan and Korea – for contemporary South African spaces.
