Richard Mudariki holds a BA in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies, and studied painting under the mentorship of Helen Lieros and Greg Shaw at Gallery Delta in Harare, Zimbabwe. Known for his modernist paintings replete with social commentary, he has participated in various exhibitions in South Africa, Germany and Zimbabwe. In June 2012, Mudariki presented his major first solo exhibition titled My Reality at Johans Borman Fine Art in Cape Town, where he is now based.

According to South African art critic and historian, Lloyd Pollak: ‘Mudariki’s art is issue-driven’, addressing the violation of animal and human rights, corporate greed, gender stereotyping, censorship and rape, inter alia. Yet despite packing ‘shrill’ subject matter close to an effectual ‘soapbox preachiness’, Mudariki’s acuity regarding the mise en scène creates a remarkable ‘Brueghelesque pageant of infamy and transgression’, that seems to sweep political tropes aside.
