‘THE TWELFTH LANGUAGE’ – HENNIE MEYER, 18 MAY – 30 JUN 2019

THE TWELFTH LANGUAGE

“South Africa has eleven official languages. My preferred means of communicating is through ceramics, my twelfth language.

I believe we all have a twelfth language – your unique means of expression or passion – be it business, literature, handcrafts, gardening, music, visual or culinary art. The focus of this ceramic exhibition is twofold: Firstly, an installation of eleven ceramic vessels reflecting South Africa’s mother-tongue speakers, as revealed in the most recent census; and Secondly, a body of work, in the twelfth language, from small multiples to large sculptural works that illustrate my ceramic narrative. Also included in the exhibition is an interactive work that allows the viewer the opportunity to engage with my twelfth language.”
