Following our first ‘Modern Masters’ held in August 2015, we have selected a personalised view of South African paintings, sculptures and works on paper produced from the mid-1940’s through to the early 2000’s. ‘Modern Masters II’ highlights the diversity of the South African art scene in the second half of the twentieth century.

Carved panels by Norman Catherine and Lucky Sibiya will share the space with still-lifes by Jane Tully Heath and Cecil Skotnes. Paintings by Charles Gassner and Sidney Goldblatt are fine examples of the experimental South African abstract scene of the ’60s. Also on exhibit are the lively street scenes of Sam Nhlengethwa and David Mogano which act as perfect counterpoints to the precise brushwork of the South African pioneer in cubism, George Diederick During.

Works by Lionel Abrams, Deborah Bell, Wim Blom, Peter Clarke, Joan Cundall Allen, Hannes
Harrs, Jack Heath, Sydney Kumalo, Erik Laubscher, Le Roux Smith Le Roux & Rocky Mafafo will complete this visually diverse exhibition.
