Lucky Sibiya was born in Vryheid, Natal before relocating to Soweto during the 50’s. Under the mentorship of Cecil Skotnes, Sibiya started creating his distinctive carved panels. Largely abstract, his rhythmic use of line and organic interpretations of forms allow for a complex interplay between relief and intaglio spaces in his work.
